Typhoon season occurs annually during the summer and autumn months. This year, within just the first two months of summer, the Nanjing region has already been affected by four severe typhoons, accompanied by wind forces reaching levels 7 to 10, with gusts exceeding level 12. More than a hundred large trees were uprooted, and multiple transportation systems were forced to suspend operations. Even the renowned Sutong Bridge suffered damage from Typhoon Rumbia, resulting in the detachment of dampers from stay cables.

Despite these extreme conditions, the 20KW wind turbine installed at Nanjing Oulu Electric’s facility has consistently withstood the impact of multiple typhoons over the years. It continues to operate normally and generate power as expected (see Figure 1), demonstrating remarkable resilience and reliability.

Developed independently by Nanjing Oulu Electric, the FD series 20KW wind turbine features a start-up wind speed of 2.5 m/s, a rated wind speed of 11 m/s, a survival wind speed (3-second gust) of 59.5 m/s, and a rotor diameter of 12 meters. The turbine is equipped with multiple control and protection mechanisms, as well as a SCADA remote monitoring system. This system enables real-time operational oversight even in remote areas with challenging climate conditions (see Figure 2), making it highly suitable for applications such as farms, small wind farms, smart grids, and microgrid systems.
